Third Army Headquarters

Project Scope

This Caddell project included the design and construction of a 362,042 SF, high-security ARCENT Third Army Headquarters complex – among the most technologically sophisticated military command and control facilities in the world. The Command Headquarters Complex occupies a 50-acre site and consists of these primary components: the C2F (Command and Control Facility); the HHC (Headquarters, Headquarters Company); and the TEMF (Tactical Equipment Maintenance Facility).

The 321,234 SF, two-story C2F includes large open office spaces, has 85% raised flooring with maximum flexibility in reconfiguring office space/equipment and supports 1,505 personnel from the major staff groups with 1500 separate offices, more than 42 conference rooms, and demountable partitions throughout. It achieved USGBC LEED Silver.

The 25,888 SF HHC supports 50 personnel from the staffing groups and is similar to a supporting administrative and warehouse facility combined. The warehouse facilities include accommodations for weapon and/or secure document storage vaults and wire mesh storage areas. It achieved USGBC LEED Gold.

The 14,920 SF TEMF includes repair bays, administrative offices, and a secure storage area and supports 15 personnel. An overhead rail-mounted 20,000 lb. capacity crane extends over the four vehicle service areas.

The C2F is primarily designed for fighting wars and features some of the most sophisticated communications systems in the world.  However, it is also beautifully designed (winner of a major national design excellent award) and exhibits a range of very fine finishes and materials. Highlights include a soaring central atrium with the entire ceiling consisting of a cathedral-style skylights, terrazzo floors, custom millwork and wood paneling, steel and glass stairways and mezzanines, stone columns, inlayed floors, Class-5 drywall finishes throughout, and cutting-edge lighting.
