Project Scope

Construction of launch pads A and B for the Saturn 1 rocket included ground stations, launch pedestals, umbilical towers and support systems such as a launch control center, operations support building, propellant storage and transfer facility, and a mobile self-propelled service gantry riding on 1,200 feet of steel rails between the two pads.  The 300 ft. high gantry was one of the largest movable structures of its kind.
