GRASSROOTS BLEACHED MARKET PULP MILL COMPLEXQuinnesec, Michigan

Project Scope

At a total cost of more than $500M, this project represented one of the largest single new project investments in Champion International’s history. The 750 ton-per-day bleached marketing pulp mill complex included a stand-alone power cogeneration power plant, bleach plant, power boiler, recovery boiler, pulp dryer facility, water treatment facilities, and an extensive wood handling and processing facility. The total Quinnesec Mill property encompasses more than 2,200 acres.  As part of the Early Contractor Involvement contract, costs and schedule parameters were established by the GC in collaboration with the project engineer, Brown & Root.  The new multi-building facility was completed on-time and to stringent quality standards. The mill represented the state-of-the-art in wood pulp processing and paper production and includes highly sophisticated electronic monitoring/control systems and environmental systems.
