Design/Build of U.S. Penitentiary
at
McCreary County, Kentucky
Caddell completed the massive
$124 million,

533,000-SF, high-tech/high-security complex
ahead-of-schedule and with high praise from
the Owner and all project participants--despite
a remote location, a challenging 423-acre site,
twenty-one separate buildings to be constructed concurrently, and the installation of some
of the
most sophisticated security and communications technology in the industry. Caddell
delivered superior performance across the board. Safety statistics
were outstanding; the project received no Deficiencies
and Omissions citations; labor relations were
exceptional; and the partnering program molded
Caddell, engineers/architects, subcontractors,
crafts personnel, and the local community into
an award winning team.
Caddell's performance at McCreary
was recognized
with numerous awards including:
n AGC 2003

Matthew J.
Perry, Jr. U.S. Courthouse
Columbia, South Carolina

The
Matthew J.
Perry, Jr.
U.S. Courthouse is the only federal courthouse named for a living
individual, and was the first to incorporate force protection into its
design. The completed facility represents the state-of-the-art in security
and communications technology.
The
courthouse exterior consists of brick veneer with a concrete backup
wall, limestone trim, curtain wall, and punched ballistic windows. The
three main levels have lobby floors of granite and slate, wood
wainscots, and pilasters. There are eight courtrooms on the second and
third levels which feature top-quality custom carpeting and millwork.
The U.S. Marshal Service manages a main cellblock,
and various court floor holding and prisoner movement corridors. The
lower level provides two separate parking areas and storage. The
building has two public elevators, three prisoner elevators, two judges
elevators, one service elevator, one clerks elevator, four exit stairs,
and one monumental stair.
The
Columbia Courthouse has achieved a beautiful synthesis of form and
function, and blends perfectly with one of the most attractive historic
districts in the Southeast. A tour of the new courthouse provides an
impressive demonstration of the best in quality millwork, stonework,
lighting design, metalwork, fine wall and floor coverings, architectural
detailing, and artwork. The new facility meets all of the needs of a
modern justice complex, while enhancing an historic neighborhood that
includes the 1855 Governors Mansion, numerous ante-bellum homes,
extensive formal gardens, fountains, and historic churches.

James H. Quillen Federal
Office Building & Courthouse
Greeneville, Tennessee
Caddell served as both construction manager and general contractor
for
this innovative four-story, 155,000 SF
federal courthouse that brought
together more than ten federal
agencies. The new $26 million

and security needs while also
reflecting its historic downtown
location. The project entailed a
high level of interior finishes,
state-of-the-art audio/visual
systems, computer access
flooring, and hardened facility
design and blast protection
features. According to GSA

project is a shining example
that a project performed in a
true spirit of partnering can
produce a quality facility,
which the American taxpayers,
GSA, the community, and the
tenants of the facility will be
proud of for many years to come."
